I Thought our readers would find it interesting even though it is from Missouri, not Virginia.  It really shows how things have changed between  "Then and Now"  I wonder if this was typical elsewhere in the United States, or if these rules were peculiar to Missouri.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Friday, April 5, 1918&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On April first - set hour clock ahead - in accordance with the law recently enacted by Congress.  This savings of one hour of daylight will help the Nation--&lt;br /&gt;Expediate the training of our Army.&lt;br /&gt;Speed up production.&lt;br /&gt;Increase ship building operations.&lt;br /&gt;Lessen industrial accidents.&lt;br /&gt;Improve health, morals, Social Welfare&lt;br /&gt;Parents will have a new hour with their children.&lt;br /&gt;Bills for gas and fuel will be cut down.&lt;br /&gt;Garden production will be increased.&lt;br /&gt;We will save 1,500,000 lbs of coal (fuel)&lt;br /&gt;Day-Light is Money-Don't waste it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1915 -- Rules for Teachers&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1.  You will not marry during the term.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2.  You are not to keep company with men.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3.  You must be home between the hours of 8 am and 6 am unless attending a school function.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;4.  You may not loiter downtown in ice cream stores.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;5.  You may not travel beyond the city limits unless you have permission of the chairman of the board.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;6.  You may not ride in a carriage or automobile with any man unless he is your father or brother.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;7.  You may not smoke cigarettes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;8.  You may not dress in bright colors.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;9.  You may not under any circumstances dye your hair.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;10. You must wear at least two petticoats.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;11. Your dresses must not be any shorter than two inches above your ankle.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;12. I threatened to take all the "Then" pictures down and move them to the Historic Richmond section.  Griff took my threat seriously and has promised to get out there and capture some more magnificent "Now" pictures for your enjoyment.
