Featured Newspaper Article: Martha Washington's Stolen Will

This newspaper article, published in the Richmond Times-Dispatch on February 16, 1936, details how the will was "stolen" from the Fairfax courthouse by Union soldiers in 1862; and of the bitter legal struggle more than half a century later to retrieve the document from the hands of J. P Morgan.

Evergreen Cemetery

Shawn Lyman is reaching out to families who have ancestors buried in Evergreen Cemetery who are willing to help clean up and maintain the cemetery. The cemetery is an historic African-American cemetery that is overgrown with greenery and has suffered vandalism. He would like to insure that those resting there receive the respect that they deserve. Contact him if you would like to help with this effort. This cemetery is featured on Richmond Then and Now

Performers at Marshall/Richmond Theatre

I've decided that the "Coming Soon" signs have been up in the Then and Now section for far too long. I threatened to take all the "Then" pictures down and move them to the Historic Richmond section. Griff took my threat seriously and has promised to get out there and capture some more magnificent "Now" pictures for your enjoyment. They should start appearing on the site soon.

Griff has also been gathering photos and information on the Marshall/Richmond Theatre. (This is your queue to jump in and tell us some of the background on this, Griff)

I've been gathering photos and information on some of the actors who performed there, and the first page of the section is now online. I will be adding more over the coming weeks.

Enjoy!
